Abdul Hameed Momand is a great but anonymous Pashto poetAnyone who has researched Hameed Baba's poetry and art till date has not done anything new. Even many Pashto poets are still unfamiliar with Hameed Baba's father. Research is needed on his life.
Hameed baba |
Hamid Baba is the third greatest Pashto poet. But his life situation is hidden in the pages of history and the Pashtun nation and the whole world is unaware of his life situation. Both Abal Hamid Momand (Hamid Baba) and Sufi poet Rehman Baba They belong to the same tribe, the Momand tribe. Rehman Baba belongs to Ibrahim Khel sub-branch of Mohmand tribe while Hameed Baba belongs to Mashokhel tribe. Both of them have criticized the rule of Mughal emperor Alamgir of their time. However, it is possible that we have talked to each other. Similarly, Jamal Khan and Gul Khan have had an incident in Mashokhel area on which both of them shared their views.
HameedBaba's full name was Abdul Hameed and he belonged to Mashokhel, a sub-branch of
the Mohmand tribe. With reference to Hamid Baba, the famous researcher MajorHenry George Raverty writes:
The second
great poet is Mullah Abdul Hameed who gained fame during the reign of Ahmad
Shah. His poetry is full of love and reformist tendencies. His poetry has
beautiful sentiments and tendencies which are valuable to Western writers. He
is a fearless poet and he is called Saadi of Pashto. Hameed Baba is definitely
a representative poet of Pashto who has beauty in his poetry. Hameed Baba is
known as Mushgaf poet. (Grammar of
Afghan Language page 30)
The famous
historian and researcher Siddiqullah Reshteen writes about Hamid Baba:
Hameed Baba
belonged to the Mohmand tribe and he lived in the village of Mashokhel. The
time of Hameed Baba's poetry and fame is (1130 H). This poem shows that he was
a contemporary of Muhammad Shah King.
چې د ښکلو د درګاه ګدائي مومي

“Those who
are begging at the door of his lover, what do they care about Muhammad Shah's
kingdom” (History of
Pashto Literature)
Well known
researcher Abdul Hai Habibi writes in this regard:
Hamid Baba
was basically Mashokhel who is a branch of Mohmand tribe and he was living in
Sarband, he was alive in (1137 H). (Pashtun Poets Chapter 1 page 232)
Similarly,
quoting Hamid Baba, Muhammad Madani writes:
Abdul Hameed
Baba belonged to the Mashokhel branch of the Mohmand tribe. He was a Sufi poet.
Hameed Baba's date of birth and death is not known but most of his poems
mention Aurangzeb Alamgir’s Era. He has written in his book Shah Ao Gada(شاه او ګدا)
which was the time of King Muhammad Shah. (History of Pashto language and
literature)
In the
preface of Hameed Baba's Diwan, Syed Anwar-ul-Haq writes that there is a
village near Badhaber (بډه بير) in the south of Peshawar
called Mashokhel (ماشوخيل) which is called the village of
famous poet Hameed Baba and this famous Pashto poet is buried there. He was
born at the end of the eleventh century. He also wrote the story of (the king
and the poor)(شاه و ګدا) in which he wrote:
چي په زړه کښې مې لړم د فکر
پروت وو
سن يو زر سل
اووه ديرش د هجرت وو
"When I had this thought in my heart, it was one
hundred and thirty-seven."
He wrote a
poem like this in his book.
چي پيرۍ مي ګيره

سپيني ګيري زما عشق

"Old age has made the hair of my beard white and my
back has also become crooked. Although I am very tall, I still have a stick in
my hands which I am leaning on. The white beard has made me worthless. People
do not accept"
Secondly, Aurangzeb
Algir died in his time. As they write

"Why shouldn't there be noise in Indian pubs? From
Aurangzeb, the cup of life fell"
If these
historical references are carefully studied, it can be deduced that they were
born in (1075-80 H) and had reached the age of (). And then, according to Major
Henry George Raverty (1145 H) was more or less 70 years old.
Aurangzeb
Alamgir died in the Deccan. Until then, Hamid Baba was alive.
In his
poetry, Hameed Baba mentions another tragic incident which happened to Jamal
Khan and Gul Khan, who were brutally killed by the people of his village and
their houses were set on fire. Rehman Baba has also described it in his poetry.
Hameed Baba has mentioned something like this.
هر سردار چي د خپل قام د بدو خيال کا
ائينه دي د خپل ځان حال د جمال کا
چي تر خپله حده خپي غزوي وړاندي
زمانه به يي جمال غوندي پائمال

“When
every chief and king wants evil for his people, let them learn a lesson from
Jamal Khan's speech. And those who do wrong will have the same fate as Jamal
Khan"
This
incident is described Major Henry George Raverty follows.
Jamal Khan
belonged to the Khudarzai of the Mohmand tribe. He became the chief of his
tribe during the reign of Nasir Khan, the governor. In the same year he
plundered the people of his tribe, just as Isa Khan intended to avenge his
loss. One day there was a wedding ceremony at Jamal Khan's house and all the
friends and relatives were gathered. Meanwhile Isa Khan attacked him in the
dark of night and set his house on fire. There was a fierce battle. 80 members
of Jamal Khan's family were killed in this battle. (Afghan
poetry)Rahman baba
This has
been mentioned by Hamid Baba in his poetry.
These
historical references show that Hameed Baba was June at that time. That is why
he has mentioned this incident in such a comprehensive manner. He has
translated into Pashto a poem of a famous poet Badruddin Hilali Chughtai. ۔ Similarly, Hamid Baba has
translated a poem of a Persian poet into Pashto. The name of this poet is not
known but the name of his book is Shariat-ul-Islam.
Hameed Baba
has mentioned in various places in his poetry that he is now old and weak.
He has also
mentioned Muhammad Shah Badshah in his poetry.
Hamid Baba and virtual love
Hamid Baba
was more influenced by Iranian and Persian poets. And most of the poets of Iran
have addressed the male beloved instead of the female beloved in poetry. The
same effect has happened on the poetry of Hamid Baba. Which is why most critics
accuse Hameed Baba of virtual love and immortality? He has translated two major
books of Persian poetry (Badshah and Faqir)(شاه و ګدا)
and (New Color of Love)(نيرنګ عشق) into Pashto in which the above
effect is very much.

Imagery
Illustration
is an important part of poetry, most of the poets resort to imagery to make the
poem beautiful. In the language of poetry it is called imagery. Hameed Baba's
poetry has the best examples of imagery. Here are some examples:
دا زما د غمه
شين زړه په کښې خيال د يار د شونډو
هسي رنګ زيب و زينت کا لکه مے په شنه پياله کښي
"My green heart in grief and the red lips of my beloved

The technique and quality of Hamid Baba's ghazal
Hamid Baba
is considered a teacher of Pashto ghazal. Regarding the technique and quality
of ghazal, he has written poetry in Pashto keeping in view the quality and
technique of Persian ghazal. In Pashto, Hameed Baba has written standard and technical
ghazals after Khushal Khan Khattak.
Hameed Baba
possesses a special style due to his meticulousness, delicate imagination and
high level of poetic ingenuity. After Khushal Khan and Rehman Baba, Hameed Baba
is the third great poet who has brought Pashto ghazal to a high standard.
Hameed Baba's poetry has a high level of idea, sweetness, and correct use of
words, metaphors, similes, and beautiful poetic style of Pashto.
Regarding
the poetic technique and quality of Hameed Baba, Raza Hamdani has written in an
article that Hameed Baba has introduced Pashto ghazal beautifully and has
taken the ghazal to a very high place and has done a favor to Pashto
literature. He further writes that Hamid Baba is the epitome of Pashto
literature.
In Hameed
Baba's poetry, matters of love and affection are described in a very dignified
and serious manner. For example, these few poems
خط په مخ د صنم راغے که سپوږمۍ شوه په هاله کښې
دا يي غاښ په خُله کښې زيب کا که ژاله شوه په لاله کښې
"The black hairs have formed a circle around the white
face of the beloved as if a lunar eclipse had occurred. And Mehboob’s white
pearly teeth are shining like a black night"
چي محبوب که په کجلو سترګي توري
د يوي بلا
نه سل پاسيږي نوري
Beloved
when he puts mascara in black eyes. So after anger comes anger.
In the time
of Hameed Baba, subjects like Sufism were the standard of ghazal. But along
with Sufism, he had set virtual love as the standard of art. And Hameed Baba's
art of expressing the themes of virtual love in poetry has become very popular.
۔ The quality of his ghazal is
very high and people enjoy his poetry as an example and enjoy it.
Romance in the poetry of Hamid Baba.
The novel is
derived from Old French Romans. Which means talking to ordinary people? Another
word attached to romance is romanticism.
The part of
literature that tells fictional stories, strange events, shocking stories or
love stories is called romance. Romance or romantic literature are fictional
stories that amaze the human intellect and such stories There are many of them,
such as the story of Toraban Deo and Gul Andam,(تورابان او ګل اندامه)
the story of Saif al-Muluk and Badi al-Jamal Pari,(سيف الملوک او بدري جماله خاپيرۍ) Alif Laila,(الف ليلي) Laila Majnoon,(ليلي او مجنون) Shireen Farhad,(فرهاد او شيرينۍ) etc. All these stories have
been copied from Persian literature in general. We consider all those love
stories to be romantic tales in which love and affection are told in simple and
smooth language like Jalak Khan and Mehbooba,(جلات خان او محبوبه)
Sher Alam and Maimona,(شيرعالم او ميمونۍ) Adam Khan and Durkhani, (آدم خان او درخانۍ)Gul and Sanobar,(ګل او صنوبر)
Musa Khan and gul makai,(موسي خان او ګل مکۍ) etc. But we think of the word
romance as an adjunct to romance. Romanticism is the name of a movement that
actually started in the late eighteenth century in Europe against classics. And
just as romance is a word separate from romance and in Europe. It is used in a
different sense so we also consider the two words separately here.
Like love
stories etc. are romances or romantic tales, but as far as romanticism is
concerned we recognize it as a movement which started from the poetry of Hamid
Baba.

chin of the beloved, wrapped in black hair, presents a scene as if bees are

After Hameed
Baba, Kamgar Khattak is very popular in Pashto literature for his delicate
imagination and eloquence. But the position held by Hameed Baba has not been
shared by any other poet. Hameed Baba is a poet whose poetry is still popular
after centuries. Reading with pleasure and enjoying it, it seems that this
poetry is the poetry of today.
Hameed baba:The representative poet of his time.
Hameed Baba
was a representative poet of his time. He was aware of all the circumstances.
His poetry covers topics such as religion, politics, romance, and morality. He
had a keen eye on the political and social conditions of his time. In his
lifetime, King Aurangzeb Alamgir had died and his rule had come to an end.
After Aurangzeb's death, all the wars for power in his family had an impact on
the Pashtun lands. Hameed Baba was also a resident of Pashtun Land and the same
effects have taken place on his life which he has mentioned in his poetry.
Invasion of Nadir Shah fishaar on India and snatching of power from Muhammad
Shah's hands. There were no minor incidents, and then the subedar of Kabul's
deterioration of relations with the Pashtuns was not a small incident.
Similarly, the incident of Jamal Khan and Gul Khan happened. Hamid Baba has
written about all of them and is aware of all these incidents.
In his
poetry, Hameed Baba has described the oppression of the Mughal government, and
has written a whole ghazal on the subject. Similarly, Hameed Baba has described
the tragic incident of Jamal Khan as follows.
"The fate of those who spread their legs beyond their
chessboard is like that of Jamal Khan"
چي تر خپله حده خپي غزوي وړاندي
زمانه به يي جمال خان غوندي پائمال کا
"And those who hurt others suffer themselves"
چي په زور د بل جامه اغوندي ځان ته
ناشسته بي يي د خپل زخم دسمال کا
"To this day, no one has changed the destiny of others,
but people who take such care spoil their own destiny
Like
Jamal Khan, who will try to set fire to other people's houses"
پردي برخي هيچا نه دي

Although the
share of love and beauty is more in Hameed Baba's poetry, but at the same time
there are mentions of various aspects of morality, mysticism, sanctity, courage
and bravery, Pashtun traditions, mourning, accidents, national and collective
issues. Hamid Baba's poetry is a combination of bitter realities of
circumstances and sweet myths and stories of life side by side. It is said that
every poet is a literary prophet of his time and Hamid Baba was undoubtedly the
greatest literary prophet of his time.
Hamid Baba, a preacher of human ethics
In every
age, a sensitive person has opposed abuse and oppression. And in one way or
another, he has tried to save all human beings from evil and lead them to good.
Hameed Baba is at the forefront of such good people. He has helped people and
advised people through. He says in a poem.
د دنيا له سرايه

"We have to finally leave this world, whether it is
five years later or fifty years later"
A good man
is one whose hands and feet do not hurt other human beings. And in fact he is a
man of high rank whose morals are good. Hameed Baba has given this message in
his poetry.
Why does a
person who does not dare to bite a thorn like to cut others with a sword and a
knife
